Today Julianne received tubes in her ears after about seven consecutive months of having fluid on her ears. The poor child had little chance to have a healthy set of ears because of the genes that were passed on from her parents. We got up at a very early 6 a.m. and were at the medical center by 6:40 a.m. Her procedure was not actually scheduled until 7:45 a.m., but she was the first one and they got her in at 7:15 a.m. and she was back in our arms at 7:45 a.m. She was in a great mood before the procedure, even though she was unable to have anything to drink or eat. She absolutely loves "Da-ta Bow" (Dr. Brown), her ENT, and talked about seeing him the whole way to the medical center and while we waited for him. Of course when he actually came in the room she didn't say a word to him, but continued talking about him after he left. To relax her the nurse gave her some "silly juice," which most children seem to not like. Julianne drank it up and asked for more. After Dr. Brown had finished the procedure he told us that her right ear actually was completely clear of fluid, but the left ear took awhile to clean out because the fluid was super glue consistency. Probably too much info for most of you reading this. The doctor did warn us that most kids wake up "madder than a hornet" (his exact words) so we were somewhat prepared for Julianne's state when the nurse brought her back to us. She was still groggy and didn't even really open her eyes, but she was quite upset. She cried and seemed pretty disoriented for the next thirty minutes or so. Even when we left and got in the car she still was pretty out of it. Once we got home she took a nap for about an hour and a half and woke up in a much better mood. She has been playing ever since. Although she is still in her pajamas at 12:30 p.m., she seems to be back to her usual self.
